At Luther Memorial School, each child is known and valued as an individual. Small classes allow teachers to be aware of different learning styles and to work with students on an individual basis. Our smaller classes are also places where parents are welcomed and information flows freely.

Kindergarten

The kindergarten program is designed to form a successful link between pre-kindergarten and primary education. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in concentration, reasoning, and following instructions while respecting the young student's need to move, verbalize, and learn through music and play. The Open Court reading curriculum begins in kindergarten.

Grades 1 - 5

In the elementary grades, the curriculum takes a more formal instructional approach with gradual increases in the challenges and responsibilities given to students. The Open Court reading curriculum combines phonics, reading comprehension and writing to build literacy skills. Our Saxon math curriculum is based on the constant repetition of mathematics concepts through the school. Across all the academic disciplines, high expectations are maintained for all students.

Grades 6, 7, & 8

In the middle school, emphasis is placed on the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and abstract reasoning skills. We capitalize on the individual strengths of our faculty members by departmentalizing. Students gain experience in changing classes and meeting the expectations of several teachers.
